About Us
In 1913 a committee of five Monon patrons applied for a grant from the Carnegie Foundation and later that same year an agreement was made stating that the Carnegie Foundation agreed to provide $10,000 to build and to maintain the present building in Monon with the understanding that the town would supply $1,000 a year using the town and township taxes to support the institution.
The library grew from 2,486 square feet to 8,140 due to an expansion and renovation completed in 1994. Other changes patrons saw were new front steps, a ground entrance, an elevator, and a meeting room.
In March 1997 the library became the first automated library in White County! In 2009 Monon Town & Township Public Library joined Evergreen Indiana, which is a statewide library automation consortium. Patrons of member libraries can view and may borrow materials from more than 130 libraries.
The Monon Town & Township Public Library provides wonderful customer service to all community members whether it is while checking in or out materials, promoting book talks, assisting with children’s story hours, helping patrons with the Library of Things, Hotspots or E Books, or hosting community programs.
